US has released fresh guidelines for non-immigrant workers holding H1-B visas

This comes after Google, Walmart, Tesla and others announced sweeping layoffs

The guidelines offer individuals a chance to extend their stay, beyond the 60-day grace period

To avail the option, one has to file for a change of nonimmigrant status within the grace period

The next step would be to file an adjustment of status application

Then apply for "compelling circumstances" to qualify for a one-year Employment Authorisation Document

At last, file an application to become beneficiary of a nonfrivolous petition to change employer

If above steps are followed, then non immigrant's authorised stay in the US can surpass 60 days

 If not, worker may be required to leave within 60 days or by end of validity period
