The new Pamban Rail Bridge, India's first vertical lift sea bridge, was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on April 6.

The New Pamban Bridge is 2.08 km long and spans across the Palk Strait in Tamil Nadu.

It features 99 spans and a 72.5-metre vertical lift span that rises to 17 metres.

It uses stainless steel reinforcement, fully welded joints, high-grade protective paint, and a polysiloxane coating to protect against corrosion.

The bridge is built at a cost of over Rs 700 crore.

It is built to handle increased rail traffic and heavier loads. It is designed for dual rail tracks.
