Rules For Carrying Alcohol On Flights

In India, the rules for carrying alcohol on flights are regulated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and can vary slightly depending on the airline

For domestic flights, passengers are not allowed to carry alcohol in their carry-on baggage. All alcoholic beverages must be packed in checked baggage

The permissible limit for carrying alcohol in checked baggage varies by airline and is usually up to 5 litres per person

The advised alcohol content per bottle should be between 24% and 70% alcohol by volume, covering most standard wines and spirits

Alcoholic beverages with more than 70% alcohol content are strictly prohibited

If the alcoholic beverage has less than 24% alcohol in it then there is no limit to carrying it. This means that any number of bottles can be carried

However, some airlines permit alcohol in carry-on bags only if it is purchased from the airport security hold area

The same needs to be sealed in plastic bags with a maximum capacity of 1 litre. These bags should be around 20.5 cm × 20.5 cm or 25 cm x 15 cm, or equivalent

Both IndiGo and Akasa Air have a one litre limit for alcohol in cabin bags. Vistara and SpiceJet require bottles to be packed in Security Tamper Evident Bags

Carrying partially consumed or opened alcohol bottles is also strictly forbidden
