For about 12 centuries, the Olympic Games were the pinnacle of Greek athletics, society, and culture

The ancient Olympic Games were initially a one-day event until 684 BC. They were later extended to three days

Here are the sports which were played during the ancient Games

Jumping: To extend their jumps, athletes used halteres, which are lead or stone weights. They released the weights by throwing them backwards after their fight

Discus Throw: The discus was originally made of stone and later of iron, lead or bronze

Wrestling: It was viewed as a valuable form of military exercise and ended only when one of the contestants admitted defeat

Pankration: It was a primitive form of martial art combining wrestling and boxing. It was considered to be one of the toughest sports
