Hot weather can be deadly for humans. So what is the highest temperature people can endure?

It is commonly held that the highest temperature a human can endure is between 104°F (40°C) and 122°F (50°C)

However, the highest external temperature a human can survive depends on various factors such as humidity, duration of exposure, and individual health and fitness

Beyond air temperature, humidity plays a big role too, and the higher the humidity, the harder our bodies have to work to stay cool

The reason people can't survive at high heat and humidity is that they can no longer regulate their internal temperature

When the body overheats, the heart has to work harder to pump blood flow to the skin to dissipate the heat

Extreme heat can be life-threatening, and prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion, heatstroke and even death

Experts suggest drinking plenty of water, including with electrolytes, to maintain proper hydration

Taking cool baths, eating cold foods, and wearing lighter-weight clothes to beat extreme heat are also recommended
