Recently, 50 people with the rare Bombay blood group came together to create a national database of individuals with uncommon blood types

About 450 people in India are known to possess this rare blood group, and has an incidence of one in four million globally

Also known as the hh blood group, it is a rare blood type in which there is the absence of H antigen and presence of anti-H antibodies

It was discovered in Mumbai in 1952 by Dr YM Bhende, and that's how it got its name

If the patient carries two mutant gene (H gene), then it will result in Bombay or Oh phenotype

Since Bombay blood group does not possess the A or B antigens, it is usually comprehended as the ‘O' blood type

This blood phenotype is mostly found in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and in some parts of the Middle East region
