Every year, the Institute for Economics and Peace releases its Global Peace Index report that measures how dangerous or safe a nation is

The report evaluates 163 countries based on 23 indicators, including political terror, deaths from internal conflict, and murder rate. Here are the top 10 dangerous countries

1. Afghanistan remains the most dangerous country in the world for the sixth year in a row due to persistent conflict, terrorism, and political instability

2. According to the United Nations, Yemen is still immersed in the world's worst humanitarian crisis, owing to years of  military conflict and violence

3. The ongoing civil war, terrorist activities, and extreme violence contribute to its high level of danger in Syria

4. Prolonged internal conflict, ethnic violence, and instability have made South Sudan a very dangerous place

5. Poverty and political unrest are an everyday occurrence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Murder, rape, kidnapping, carjackings, burglaries, and highway robberies, are fairly common

6. Russia ranked as the more dangerous of the two countries involved in the Russo-Ukrainian War, due to the fact that Russian army casualties in Ukraine count toward Russia's level of danger

7. Ukraine experienced the largest deterioration in overall score both regionally and globally, primarily due to the Russian invasion in February 2022

8. Somalia is known for its piracy problem in the Somali Basin, with illegal attacks on merchant ships having serious consequences for international trade
