Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested by the police this morning. Police sources said a First Information Report was registered against Mr Tomar last night on charges of cheating, forgery and conspiracy. He faces allegations that he faked his law degree.
- "The way Jitendra Tomar was arrested it seemed as if they had come to arrest a mafia. Is he a mafia, was he running away? What was the emergency that Jitendra Tomar had to be arrested?"
Manish Sisodia, Aam Admi Party
- "Really unfortunate that elected representatives are being held like this"
Ashutosh, Leader, Aam Aadmi Party
- "If Police has arrested a minister, then it must be for some reason. All investigations must have been implemented. They must have gone to Delhi University and investigated. And after that, police may have felt. In this country, even central government ministers have been arrested. No one is above law. To put blame on central government and say different things about them, these are their habits."
Satish Upadhyay, President, Delhi BJP
- "The real issue is not technicalities of Jitender Tomar's arrest; that's for courts to decide. Issue here is government's and the party's refusal to come clean."
Yogendra Yadav
- "Arvind Kejriwal should own up moral responsibility (for his law minister) and should resign. He should also ensure that the law minister also resigns."
Ajay Maken, Leader, Congress
