New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend Narendra Modi's swearing-in on Monday, his party has confirmed. "On the invitation of Prime Minister designate, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will make a day long visit to New Delhi," PML-N Spokesperson Siddiq Al Farooq said today. The two leaders are expected to meet on the sidelines of the ceremony, sources in the Pakistan government said. They also added that Mr Sharif would invite Mr Modi to visit Pakistan.
  • I do hope that the BJP will raise the question of the 26/11 trial. They will also talk about Hafiz Saeed. We do hope that the BJP remains true to the position that it has maintained in the last ten years and raises these issues when the PM of Pakistan comes to India.
    Manish Tewari, Congress leader
  • Hope this will usher in a new era between India and Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif has always maintained that he wants to maintain good relations with all neighbouring countries especially India. We will sit across the table and try and resolve our issues.
    Tariq Azim, PML-N spokesperson
  • This is very positive and good news. World leaders have taken note and everyone has called Mr Modi, including Barack Obama.
    Prakash Javadekar, BJP leader
  • It is a very welcome change from Mr Modi. He is following the same path followed by Pandit Nehru and (Atal Bihari) Vajpayeeji.
    Digvijay Singh, Congress leader
  • Very glad to hear Pak PM has accepted invite, shows that he can prevail over forces inimical to good relations with India. I hope that this will mark a new beginning in ties between our two countries. The people of J&K will be watching closely.
Omar Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister
