Tarun Tejpal, Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka, has stepped down for six months after being accused of sexual assault by a woman journalist who works with the weekly magazine.
- Police can take suo moto action and start investigations. Maybe the woman may not come forward. The ball is in her court but the law is standing with her.
Kiran Bedi, former IPS officer and activist - @quizderek: Sanctimonious letters after despicable conduct... Puke.
Derek O'Brien, Trinamool Congress leader - Tehelka's response to this matter is inadequate and shocking. Penance is no substitute for due process and penalty. Complainant has said that sexual assault has happened. Shocked that Tehelka is claiming complainant is fully satisfied, complainant has told us she is not satisfied.
Kavita Krishnan, Secretary, All India Progressive Women Association - @Javedakhtarjadu: It is a shame that some one with such impeccable values has committed such an act but unlike some he has the guts to accept and repent
Javed Akhtar, lyricist - @FarOutAkhtar: Woke up to the shocking news of Tarun Tejpal!! A person in his position has to live by the ethical standard he demands of others! Sad...
Farhan Akhtar, actor and director - @kunalkohli: Shocked #tehelka feels stepping down is atonement #tejpal admitted to the crime. Will media protect their own? Will justice be served?
Kunal Kohli, filmmaker - @minimathur: How can a 6 month vacation..a "recuse" if you insist.. Be an apt self punishment for sexual violation?! How utterly brown sahib #Tehelka
