New York: A 12-year-old boy in the United States was accidentally stabbed while scuffling for a knife during an argument with his friend over an Xbox video game console.

The boy, from Queens in New York, was visiting his 13-year-old neighbour last week.

When he accused his older friend of having his Xbox video game console, the two boys got into a heated argument.

The older boy then whipped out a butter knife, police said.

The younger child attempted to grab the knife out of the teen's hands and wound up accidentally stabbing himself in the stomach during the altercation, 'New York Daily News' reported.

The victim ran home and told his aunt about the incident.

She rushed him to a hospital with a small puncture wound.

He was listed in stable condition and cops were called.

"That boy is a very good child," neighbour Doreen White, said of the victim, who goes to school with her granddaughter.

"He never has a problem or beef with anybody. I never hear him out here fighting," she said.

The older boy admitted to holding the butter knife, and has been charged as a minor with menacing.
