Hockessin, Delaware: Ananya Singh is a 13-year-old from Hockessin, Delaware. She reports on her experience with Superstorm Sandy:

Prepping for Sandy was no easy or enjoyable task.

On Friday, I was forced to sit in a cramped minivan for 30 minutes, waiting for my mom to go to Costco. I kept watching people leave with lots of food. How many frozen dinners do you need?

Some of the other things we did, included bringing all of our patio furniture inside, putting all the potted plants in the garage, and charging our phones to make sure that in case of an emergency, we could call someone if needed.

Since teachers sent homework via email, my brother and I tried to finish as much as possible in case we lost power.

The Indians who live near us decided to gather.  As the hurricane was making landfall, we were safe and together eating pakoras and rajma, watching movies, drinking tea, and of course challenging the boys to video games. Then we drove home.

I woke up in the middle of the night to hear the wind howling like a wolf. As I lay there shivering, I felt like a burrito wrapped up in my blankets.

I surely was not going to be able to sleep much. As I looked outside my window, it was like Halloween had come early. The branches on our front yard tree were breaking off, and some were dangling by the last thread.

It was pitch black and suddenly lightning would strike illuminating the sky. Puddles of water were seeping into the gutter and grass. The moon was so clear that it almost looked like that one ray of light at the end of all this tortuous rain.

The torrential rain made me feel it was a devil taking over the state of Delaware.

My last thoughts as I fell back to sleep were, are we going to have Halloween tomorrow?
