Islamabad:
A blast occurred at the United Plaza in Peshawar on Saturday, killing two people and injuring seven others.
According to the police, the attack was car bomb. Twenty shops were destroyed due in the blast.
Some people are still trapped in the rubble.
PTI adds:
The blast, which occurred in a three-storey building situated on University Road shortly after 11.30 am local time, sparked a major fire. Witnesses said they had seen ambulances taking six injured persons to nearby hospitals.
Local residents used ladders and ropes to help people trapped on upper floors to escape the building, which had several shops, commercial establishments and private offices.
Thick black smoke billowed out of the building as fire fighters struggled to control the blaze.
Witnesses said they had seen a car parked outside the building that was targeted. Some persons even made inquiries about the car after they were unable to trace its owner.
The witnesses said they believed a bomb was planted in the car.
Peshawar has been rocked by a series of bombings and suicide attacks targeting public places and security facilities over the past few weeks.
The Taliban have been blamed for these attacks, which began after the army launched operations against militants in South Waziristan tribal region. Hundreds have died in these attacks.
