Islamabad: At least 25 people were killed and over 100 others injured in separate car collisions near Pakistan's capital city on Thursday, including one on Islamabad- Lahore Motorway where a dozen cars rammed a passenger bus due to dense smog that has engulfed Punjab province.
As many as 13 people died and over 25 sustained injuries in the crash on busy Islamabad-Lahore Motorway near Hafizabad when 12 cars crashed into each other and collided with a bus due to heavy fog, police said.
"I can confirm that 13 people have been killed," senior police official Sardar Gul said.
The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals. An official of motorway police said that most of those killed were going to annual religious congregation of Tableeghi Jamaat which is being held at Raiwind near Lahore.
Maximum speed limit on motorway is 120 km/hour but some motorists often tend to cross the limit due to smooth and broad road, linking Lahore to Peshawar.
Another 10 people were killed and over 40 injured after cars rammed into one another at Sukhekhi Interchange between Rawalpindi and Islamabad area where the visibility dropped to zero resulting in the collisions between cars, Dunya News reported.
The heavy smog that has engulfed the Punjab province has also forced the authorities to close sections of the crucial motorway.
Meanwhile in Faisalabad, two people were killed and five injured when two cars crashed into each other.
