Santiago:
A 6.2 magnitude quake shook northern Chile and Argentina on Wednesday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 1116 GMT in Argentina, 46 kilometers (29 miles) northwest of San Antonio de los Cobres in an area near the border with Chile.
Chile's National Emergency Center said the quake occurred at a depth of 257 kilometers (160 miles), resulting in an event of "minor intensity."
It posed no threat of a tsunami, the Chilean agency said.
