Mortar shells on Sunday smashed into a central Iraq recruitment centre for civilians volunteering to fight a militant offensive, killing six people, police and a doctor said.
Among those killed in the shelling in the town of Khales, five kilometres (three miles) north of the Diyala provincial capital Baquba, were three soldiers and three other people, the sources said.
