A huge ceremony in Beijing to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II began Thursday with a 70-gun salute.
Chinese President Xi Jinping oversaw the event, which will see a huge military parade, on the Tiananmen Rostrum where Mao Zedong declared the formation of the People's Republic in 1949.
