85-year-old grandma goes gliding

Lima: An 85-year-old grandmother with a taste for adventure celebrated her birthday with a paragliding trip over the coast of Lima on Monday.

Abigail Valdez flew in tandem with an instructor over the Costa Verde for 15 minutes.

Down below her five children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren watched her perform the feat.

She said the challenge was a birthday present from her family. After landing she told journalists she found the experience "lovely" and "glorious".

Valdez said she had previously flown in small planes and a helicopter and that her next challenge was to do a bungee jump.
