Rhode Island:
An escaped emu caused panic in a Rhode Island neighborhood, prompting people to call emergency operators asking what was scampering across backyards. Was it a big bird or something else?
Debbie Foley who was house-sitting for her brother saw a big chicken run across her yard and immediately called 911, "Oh my god, I'm afraid to take my dog out! did anybody report it missing?" she asked to which the reply was in the affirmative.
Dozens of people reported sightings. The emu in Rhode Island crossed the road and woods and farms.
It was on the run for two nights. The bird can run up to 30 miles an hour!
The calls kept coming. "I just came across an ostrich... I think it's an ostrich, a very, very large bird."
The emu escaped from a farm, shocking because it went right through an electric fence. Eventually, animal control caught up with the creature, grabbing it by its neck for the trip home. As for that fence with an electrical current, the emu's owners say they just wish it had kept the emu in.
