Washington, United States: The Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP), a BJP affiliated organisation, has claimed that only a small group of Patels are opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US later this month, putting the blame on political opponents for trying to create division.
In a statement, OFBJP said that an overwhelming majority of the Patel community in the US are whole heartedly supporting PM Modi's visit. "Only a miniscule group of Patels are making noises," OFBJP said.
Denying reports about 1,000 members of the Patel community meeting in Edison, New Jersey on September 9, where they decided to boycott PM Modi's US programs, the OFBJP said, "Only about 30-40 people met during that meeting."
In a show of unity, nearly all important office bearers of the OFBP-USA national executive committee, including president, Chandrakant Patel, past president Jayesh Patel, and office bearers like Raju Patel, Arvind Patel and Vasudev Patel said that over 500 Indian organisations are involved in organising the grand community reception event in San Francisco on September 27.
"These organising groups also include the entire Patel community, Gujarati, Hotel and Motel Owners, Christian, and Muslim associations of USA," said the office bearers.
The OFBJP-USA also appealed to the small group of Patels to withdraw their ill-advised protest and work with the Indian diaspora in the successful conduct of the community reception.
