A chronology of the other air disasters this year:
May 20: An Indonesian army C-130 Hercules transport plane crashed into a village on eastern Java, killing at least 97 people.
April 6: An Indonesian army Fokker-27 crashed on landing near Bandung, West Java, killing 24 people.
February 25: A flight from Istanbul to Amsterdam crashed short of the runway at Schiphol international airport. Of the 135 people on board, nine were killed and at least 50 injured.
February 12: A passenger plane crashed into a house in Buffalo, New York, killing all 49 people on board and one person on the ground.
February 8: A passenger plane crashed into a river in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, killing 24 people, most of whom were from the same family.
January 15: A US Airways airliner on a domestic flight made an emergency landing on the Hudson River in New York. All 150 passengers, three flight attendants and two pilots were rescued in freezing weather, with no loss of life.
