Islamabad:
The Pakistan military leadership has said that all the militant strongholds have been destroyed in the Swat and Mingora regions. Key areas are now under the control of security forces.
According to sources, over 1400 militants have been killed and a 100 have been arrested. Sources also said that a militant-run FM radio network has also been completely destroyed.
Meanwhile, Obama's special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke was in Swat on Thursday.
Holbrooke said he would meet Pakistani leaders, including army chief General Ashfaq Kayani, in Islamabad on Friday to discuss how to handle the next phase of holding, securing and rehabilitating Swat after the operation to clear the valley had been completed.
