Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande To Meet On Eve Of Bratislava Summit
The leaders of France and Germany will meet on Thursday.
Berlin: The leaders of France and Germany will meet on Thursday to coordinate their positions on the eve of a key EU summit to map out the bloc's post-Brexit future.

Friday's summit in the Slovakian capital Bratislava will bring together the leaders of all EU nations except Britain following its shock referendum vote in June to leave to European Union.

A spokesman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Monday that her pre-summit meeting with French President Francois Hollande in Paris would allow for the "harmonisation" of the two key EU players' positions going into the talks.

The French presidency said the pair would meet at 1030 GMT, followed by a working lunch.

The Bratislava summit is intended as a reboot for the struggling EU, with a focus on security and defence to provide a new sense of purpose after the Brexit vote revealed deep fears over globalisation, terrorism and migration.

France and Germany are expected to push a plan to enhance defence cooperation across the bloc, while falling short of the "EU army" that some eastern states have called for.
