Ankara:
An earthquake caused a six-storey hotel and other buildings to collapse in eastern Turkey on Wednesday. State-run TRT television said at least three bodies were recovered and more than 50 people were believed to be trapped in the rubble of a hotel. Rescue teams are being sent from the capital Ankara.
The US Geological Survey said the earthquake measured 5.7. Turkey's Kandilli seismology centre said it struck at 21:23 local time (1923 GMT). There was no damage in the town of Edremit, the quake's epicentre.
Reports said the collapsed buildings were being used by journalists and aid workers involved in recovery efforts following the earlier quake.
This is the second quake in Turkey in the last two weeks. On October 23, a 7.2 magnitude quake killed 600 people and destroyed 2,000 buildings. About 14-hundred aftershocks have rocked the region since then. Many residents had been living in tents, despite the cold, too afraid to return to their homes.
