New Orleans:

A man at New Orleans Airport today attacked two security personnel with a machete and insecticide spray before he was shot multiple times, according to reports in US media.

Reports said the attacker walked up to a Transportation Security Agency officer at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana, pulled out a can of wasp insecticide and sprayed it on him.

The attacker, identified as Richard White, a 63-year-old taxi driver, then allegedly pulled out a machete and slashed the arm of a female officer, reports said.

Other officers, responding to the attack, opened fire and shot the suspect multiple times. He was unresponsive when he was rushed to a hospital, reports said quoting officials.

Four shots were fired around 8 pm in Concourse B of the airport, said an eyewitness, who was there with his family while waiting for a connecting flight.

The entire airport was closed for nearly 20 minutes.
