Four shots were fired around 8 pm in Concourse B of the airport, said an eyewitness, who was there with his family while waiting for a connecting flight.
The entire airport was closed for nearly 20 minutes.
A man at New Orleans Airport today attacked two security personnel with a machete and insecticide spray before he was shot multiple times, according to reports in US media.
Reports said the attacker walked up to a Transportation Security Agency officer at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana, pulled out a can of wasp insecticide and sprayed it on him.
The attacker, identified as Richard White, a 63-year-old taxi driver, then allegedly pulled out a machete and slashed the arm of a female officer, reports said.
