Port Arthur, Texas:
Authorities say dozens of people are injured, at least four critically, in a pileup of some 50 vehicles in Southeast Texas.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Deputy Rod Carroll says two cars caught fire but there were no casualties in the chain-reaction collisions that started around 5.45 am on Thursday on Highway 73 west of Port Arthur.
Carroll says fog and smoke from marsh fires that burned for days in Jefferson County have pushed visibility to zero in the area. The accident closed the roadway about 80 miles east of Houston.
He says up to 40 people are being treated for injuries including broken bones, abrasions and trauma.
