Australian politician faces child porn charges

Sydney: An Australian politician has been charged with child pornography offences, a media report said on Thursday.

Police said the South Australian Labour politician had been charged at the City Watch House on Wednesday night and released on bail.

The accused cannot be named because of automatic suppression orders on such offences, The Age reported.

He was arrested in Adelaide after several laptops were seized from his home.

He faces two charges of possessing child pornography and two charges of taking steps to access child pornography, the newspaper said quoting the Australian news agency AAP.

He is due to appear in court May 20. The police probe is continuing.
