Maryland:
US President Barack Obama said that he "could not be prouder" of Joe Biden after his Vice President clashed with Republican Paul Ryan in a fiery debate in Kentucky.
In an unusual statement delivered under the wing of Air Force One, Mr Obama said he especially appreciated Mr Biden's strong defense of the middle class in the debate, which crackled with passion and argument.
"I'm going to make a special point of saying that I thought Joe Biden was terrific tonight. I could not be prouder of him," Mr Obama said after he landed at Andrews Air Force base after a campaign swing in Florida.
"I thought he made a very strong case. I really think that his passion for making sure that the economy grows for the middle class came through. So I'm very proud of him."
