US President Barack Obama called for an end to construction on disputed islands in the South China Sea Wednesday, upping the pressure on China at a summit of Asia-Pacific leaders.
Obama called for "bold steps to lower tensions, including pledging to halt further reclamation, new construction, and militarization," in comments directed at Beijing.
