Washington: US President Barack Obama is expected to speak to British Prime Minister David Cameron on Friday following Britain's vote to leave the European Union, the White House said.
"The President has been briefed on the incoming returns in the UK referendum, and he will continue to be updated by his team as the situation warrants," the White House said in a statement.
"We expect the President will have an opportunity to speak to Prime Minister Cameron over the course of the next day, and we will release further comment as soon as appropriate," it added.
The results of Britain's Thursday referendum have struck a thunderous blow against the EU and spread panic through world markets Friday as the British pound collapsed to a 31-year low.
Obama is in San Francisco, where he is set to meet with tech industry leaders on Friday.
