Washington: President Barack Obama is asking top congressional leaders from both parties to meet with him after the election.

The White House says Obama invited House and Senate leaders from both parties to a meeting at the White House on Friday afternoon. It'll be the first chance for both parties to plot a way forward after the dust settles from Tuesday's midterm elections.

The results of the midterms will have a profound impact on Obama's ability to carry out his agenda during his final two years in office. Democrats have been bracing for a potential Republican takeover of the Senate, which would make it easier to pass Republican-driven legislation approved by the House.

Republicans have already vowed aggressive efforts to rein in Obama if they win the Senate.
