President Barack Obama will deliver a statement on Iraq on Saturday, after sending US warplanes back into the country to help rescue thousands of civilians trapped on a mountain by extremist fighters.
The statement, due to be delivered at 10:25 am (1425 GMT) on the South Lawn of the White House before the president departs for his summer vacation, comes after US air strikes hit Islamic State positions within striking distance of the autonomous region of Kurdistan.
