Kabul: A car bomb that exploded outside a private hospital in Kabul today killed three people and injured 18 more, a senior health official said, part of a wave of attacks to hit the Afghan capital in recent weeks.

The target appeared to be a vehicle carrying a foreign citizen, a security source and witness said.

Paramedics carried the wounded away on stretchers in a street littered with broken glass and mangled cars after the blast, a Reuters witness said.

"We have received three dead bodies and 18 wounded civilians in the blast," said senior Kabul health official Kabir Amiry. "There could be more casualties."

The bomb was placed in a Toyota sedan, a security official at the scene said. Parts of the car ripped apart by the force of the blast were scattered along the street.
