Bomb attack kills 8 in northern Nigeria's Maiduguri

Abuja: Bomb explosion in a bustling part of Maiduguri metropolis in northern Nigeria killed eight persons and injured many.

Though the military declined commenting on the blast, eyewitnesses said the attack was done in a characteristic akin to attacks by Islamic militant group, Boko Haram, which has been engaged the town and its environs in almost daily attacks in recent times.

Hospital workers confirmed that two bodies were carried to Maiduguri teaching hospital but could not say where the others were taken.

Boko Haram says it fights to install Islamic Sharia rule in the oil rich African country and its consistent operation has led to debate on true federalism in the country divided among mostly Muslim north and predominant Christian south.

The group also seeks justice against policemen who were accused of killing the leader, Muhammed Yusuf in 2009 when a confrontation between them and the police led to the death of not less than 800 people.
