Oslo, Norway: The US Embassy was evacuated in central Oslo on Tuesday when a suspicious item was found beneath a car trying to enter the compound, but a search turned up nothing harmful, police said.
A surrounding area of the capital also was evacuated for several hours, including the royal palace, but the monarch was not there at the time, police said.
"The object had been removed, and it's nothing dangerous," said police spokesman Roar Hanssen, who declined to identify what had been found under the car.
"Everything is back to normal," Mr Hanssen said.
