Brasilia: Brazil's largest party announced on Tuesday it is leaving President Dilma Rousseff's governing coalition and pulling its members from her government, a departure that cripples her chances of surviving in office.

The Brazilian Democratic Movement Party decided at a leadership meeting that the six remaining ministers in Rousseff's Cabinet must resign or face ethics proceedings.

The expected break sharply raises the odds that Rousseff will be impeached by Congress in a matter of months, which would put Vice President Michel Temer, leader of the PMDB, in the presidential seat.
