Lodon:

Gordon Brown has reshuffled his top team as he hangs on to his job by the skin of his teeth. But will it save his government?

Defence Secretary John Hutton became the latest minister to quit after another minister, James Purnell, quit with a call for the PM to step down.

The minister's resignation was widely expected after she misused 80,000 pounds of parliamentary expenses, but she chose a time when 3 other ministers announced they were stepping down, leaving the government in disarray.

The Opposition is scenting blood.

Leader of Conservative Party David Cameron says: "Why doesn't he take the one act of authority left to him: Get down to the Palace, ask for a dissolution, call that election."

Brown faces a tsunami of problems including the fact that Labour is expected to badly in the EU and local election. Though many cabinet ministers are coming out in support of him as well today. But sources close of the PM say he is determined to hold on to his job because he believes he needs to get on with it and do the job.
