London: A British man was remanded in custody on Saturday after being charged with threatening to kill 200 US schoolchildren.
Reece Elliott, 24, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court, in the Newcastle conurbation in northeast England.
He also faces a charge of making a malicious communication.
Threatening posts made on a memorial web page for a girl killed in a Tennessee road accident led to thousands of children being kept off school in the state's Warren County on Thursday.
Elliott, who lives about a kilometer from the court, did not enter pleas to the charges during the 30-minute hearing.
Jim Lynch, chairman of the bench, said he would be remanded into custody. He next appears before the same court on Wednesday.
