Lahore:
The International Border at Attari near Wagah in Punjab became the scene of a confrontation on Friday night between Pakistani Rangers and India's Border Security Force.
The trouble started after two rockets were fired from across the border around 10 pm. The rockets landed close to two villages in Attari near Wagah in Punjab. No casualties or damage have been reported.
BSF troops retaliated with machine gun and mortar fire. A similar incident was reported two months back as well when rocket propelled grenades and rockets were fired from Pakistan across the Border. However, the BSF did not retaliate at that time.
Attari is located on the International Border, 28 kilometers from Amritsar. The BSF has now been put on alert along the International Border, right after the incident the BSF held a flag meeting with the Pakistani rangers and lodged a strong protest.
PTI adds: Pakistan's border security forces on Saturday rejected a contention by their Indian counterparts that rockets were fired into Indian territory from across the border in the Wagah sector.
A meeting between the sector commanders of Pakistan Rangers and Border Security Force (BSF) over the issue remained "inconclusive", a spokesman for Pakistan Rangers said.
The sector commanders met a little after 1 am following reports of three major explosions in the Wagah sector.
The blasts caused wide spread panic in village on Pakistani side.
