London:
New British Prime Minister David Cameron has set up a National Security Council to oversee all aspects of Britain's security, particularly focusing on policy in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and review the terror threat to the country.
Prime Minister Cameron has appointed Sir Peter Ricketts, who is permanent under-secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as his National Security Advisor, an official statement said.
Sir Peter will establish the new National Security Council structures and coordinate and deliver the Government's international security agenda, it said.
The council will integrate all foreign policy and defence decisions at the highest levels of government. Prime Minister Cameron will chair the council.
Cameron's office says the security council will also review the terrorist threat to Britain.
