Santiago:
Chile's LAN Airlines said on Wednesday it was temporarily grounding its three Boeing Dreamliners following a recommendation by US regulators.
"In compliance with the recommendation of the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA) and in coordination with the Chilean Aeronautical Authority (DGAC), LAN announces that it will temporarily suspend the operation of its three Boeing 787 aircraft," the company said in a statement.
Earlier on Wednesday, US and Japanese regulators grounded Boeing's 787 Dreamliner until a fire risk linked to the plane's lithium batteries can be resolved.
FAA action was prompted by a battery incident during an All Nippon Airways flight that resulted in an emergency landing on Wednesday in Japan, following another incident last week on an ANA 787 on the ground in Boston.
In its statement, LAN said flights due to be operated by its 787 fleet would be temporarily replaced by other aircraft to limit the impact on passengers and cargo clients.
