China police send helicopters in massive drug bust

Beijing: Chinese authorities have deployed helicopters, speedboats and paramilitary police in a massive raid on a single southern village notorious for illegal drugs production.

Guangdong province's police force says officers surrounded and then entered the village of Boshe, where more than a fifth of households were involved in or linked to production and trafficking of drugs.

The police statement late on Thursday said police and paramilitary forces from four cities arrested 182 suspects in Sunday's raid.

The Yangcheng Evening News, a local newspaper, says 3 tons of methamphetamine was seized in the raid.

It says Boshe's villagers have resisted Chinese authorities for years, blockading the village entrance with motorcycles, brandishing replica AK-47s, laying nail boards on the road and hurling rocks and homemade grenades at officers.
