New York: Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived here Tuesday afternoon for a two-day state visit that is expected to tackle a wide range of issues between the world's biggest economic power and its biggest economic rival.

US Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. travelled to a cold and wet Andrews Air Force Base to greet Mr. Hu, who received red-carpet treatment and a full military colour guard. Mr. Hu will attend a private dinner at the White House Tuesday night with President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Tom Donilon, the national security adviser.

On Wednesday, Mr. Hu will receive all the pomp of a full White House arrival ceremony. A State Dinner is planned for Wednesday night at the White House.
