Beijing:
Two former vice mayors of East China were executed today after they were convicted for corruption, the Chinese Supreme People's Court (SPC) said.
The execution was approved after reviewing both the cases, the SPC said during a press meet in Beijing.
Xu Maiyong, a former vice mayor of Hangzhou at Zhejiang province in east China was convicted of bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power and was sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court of the city of Ningbo on May 12.
Jiang Renjie, a former vice mayor of Suzhou at Jiangsu province in East China was also convicted of bribery and was sentenced to death by the People's Court of Nanjing in April 2008.
Both Xu and Jiang appealed the courts after their trials, however, their appeals were rejected by the higher courts, Xinhua reported.
