Shanghai: A debt-ridden college graduate in China has been detained for allegedly murdering a woman who offered massage service at her downtown home.
The body of the victim surnamed Shen, from a Guangxi Zhuang region, was found at her apartment in Shanghai's Huangpu district Sunday morning, Shanghai Daily quoted police as saying.
Police said they tracked down the suspect, surnamed Wu, at his home.
Wu revealed that he came across Shen through the Internet. He visited her at home last Tuesday. When Shen was seeing Wu out, he attacked her with a hammer, killing her with blows to the head, said police.
The graduate wrapped the body in a quilt and took an unspecified sum of money. He admitted to have committed the crime due to heavy debts, police said.
The Shanghai native had 600,000 yuan (about $97,000) credit card bills, while his monthly income was 2,800 yuan after tax.
