Beijing:
China's Jiangsu province plans to have "buffer zone" rooms at its marriage registration offices where a divorcing couple can think calmly before taking the final decision, authorities said.
"Our aim of setting up the room is to encourage couples who want to divorce not to make the decision abruptly," Gao, a manager, was quoted as saying.
The scheme is being piloted in Nanjing, where on an average 80 couples get divorced every day, China Daily quoted Modern Express as reporting.
The report said that some people take the decision on an impulse. It cited the example of a couple who went to the marriage registration office four times to get divorce, but resumed their relationship.
The "buffer zone" rooms are decorated like cosy homes and the walls are painted with words intending to arouse pleasant memories for the couples.
"What we want to do is to prevent impulsive divorce decisions, not stop them from divorcing.
"...if they could walk into the room and think calmly, the relationship may be saved," Gao said.
