CNN interviewer Larry King seeks divorce No 8

Los Angeles: Veteran television interviewer Larry King has filed for divorce from his seventh wife, citing "irreconcilable differences" for the breakdown of the 13-year marriage.

A spokesman for King, 76, told People magazine the wiry CNN icon would not be commenting on his split from Shawn Southwick, 50, citing concerns for the welfare of the couple's two children. "His major concern is the welfare of his children and beyond he's not going to comment about the divorce," Rubenstein told People magazine yesterday.

An attorney for King said the interviewer was hoping for an "amicable" divorce. "It's a very sad day in Larry's life and he hopes the divorce will be amicable," lawyer Susan Carter told the TMZ.com entertainment website. "Larry loves his children very much and will be an integral part of their lives."

Shortly after King's lawyers filed for divorce at Los Angeles Superior Court, attorneys for Southwick also filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences."

Although Southwick is King's seventh wife, it is the eighth time the septuagenarian television personality has filed for a divorce. He was twice married and divorced to Alene Akins, with whom he split in 1972.

King is one of the most recognisable figures on US television, hosting a nightly interview programme "Larry King Live" on CNN since 1985 after previously anchoring a national nightly radio show for seven years.
