'Committed to investigate  tragic death of Sapna Halappanavar', says Irish Embassy
Reacting to the death of Savita Halappanavar who was in the midst of a miscarriage and was refused an abortion in an Irish hospital, the Irish embassy in a press note said they were  committed to investigate  tragic death of Mrs Halappanavar and had ordered an investigation too.

The death of Mrs Savita Halappanavar at Galway University Hospital on 28 October was a terrible tragedy and the embassy expresses its profound condolences to her husband Praveen and her family here in India.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mrs Halappanavar's death has been ordered by the Health Authorities in Ireland and the investigation team - which will include independent external expertise - will be liaising with Mrs Halappanavar's family.

The Irish Prime Minister and the Minister for Health spoke on the matter in the Irish Parliament yesterday and expressed their deepest condolences to the husband and family of Mrs Halappanavar. The Embassy wishes to express its own sympathies to the family at this very difficult time.

The Irish government, at the highest level, is committed to establishing the full circumstances and facts surrounding Mrs Halappanavar's tragic death.
