Cops arrested after video shows them shooting teenager

Manaus, Brazil: A group of five military police officers were arrested in Manaus on Wednesday, after security camera video caught the uniformed officers shooting a teenager at close range.

The boy survived, but received several wounds.

The footage showed the officers pushing the 14-year-old boy and shooting him in the chest at close range.

The incident took place on 17 August 2010.

The boy was near his house when police approached him and tore his necklace from his throat.

The boy's mother was screaming from one of the houses shown in the video, asking police not to shoot her son.

Military police said the officers were removed from their posts and arrested.

Zulimar Pimentel, Amazonas Public Safety Secretary, in a statement to TV Record said that "everything will be done in order to get to the bottom of this and so these officers are held responsible."

The minor's name and the names of the officers involved have not been released.

According to the prosecutor, he was hit five times.

The victim had several injuries resulting from the shots, including a perforated lung, said Cristina Magda Pereira Goes, spokeswoman for the state prosecutor's office.

He and his family were entered into a witness protection program.
